A Favorite Returns!
Allen Hopkins, Instructor
6 Thursdays, July 9-August 13, 2020
Ages 10-adult, beginners
Derived from Renaissance lutes and tuned like a violin, the mandolin has spread from its Italian birthplace throughout the world. Its distinctive sound is featured in bluegrass, old-time, Celtic, rock, folk, classical, and ethnic music, playing melody and rhythm. Students will learn basic first-position chords, picking techniques, and several melodies in various folk styles. There will also be demonstrations of various mandolin-family instruments, old and new, and discussions of further resources for future development. Ability to read standard music notation is helpful, but not required.
NOTE: Students will need to have their own instruments. If you have questions about an appropriate instrument, feel free to e-mail the instructor directly at email@example.com.
Fee: $10 registration fee; $102* tuition; $78 if enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein. (Fees are as of Summer 2020.)
