These special programs allow the younger student to experience the thrill of individualized instruction, while building the foundation of coordination and healthy technique within a specialized curriculum. Early Start faculty members have extensive experience and interest in teaching younger students. Programs vary by instrument and age.
EARLY START GUITAR
Lessons are arranged by consultation with the Dean’s Office.
NOTE: Individual early start guitar lessons may be conducted in-person per Hochstein’s reopening plan; however, group classes will take place online. To find out more about the technical requirements for online instruction, click here.
Playful characters and original stories and games teach note names, techniques, and songs designed to share our love of music.
Children should begin on an appropriately sized (½ or ¾) classical guitar. For advice on obtaining an instrument for your child, please call (585) 454-4596.
The half-hour lesson is supplemented by a weekly, 50-minute group class. Summer group classes are as follows:
Mondays, 5:30-6:20 pm - Beginning Group Guitar (Suen)
Wednesdays 6:30-7:20 pm - Continuing Group Guitar (Wiesenthal)
Fee: $10 registration fee; $34* fee per half-hour lesson (includes the group class). Schedules and fees are arranged by appointment with the Dean’s Office. With enrollment in Early Start Guitar, families pay reduced fees for one Music FUNdamentals or Children’s Dance class, and reduced fees for other ensembles. (Fees are as of Summer 2021.)
