Hochstein is the place to be for chamber music! Join us for this wonderful weeklong camp that builds on the long history of Hochstein’s successful chamber program, which dates back to the 1920s!
Students of similar ages and abilities will be placed in a trio, quartet, or quintet and also take part in a larger chamber orchestra. Camp will include daily coachings, presentations on special topics, and a masterclass by a special guest artist.
Coachings and workshops/activities will be customized based on the playing level and prior experience of the students. Elementary and intermediate students who are new to chamber music will have fun learning basic ensemble playing skills while also receiving support on instrument technique. More advanced and experienced students will work on refining their collaborative playing skills while exploring challenging and exciting repertoire.
Advanced students will also have the opportunity to be considered for participation in a special Advanced Chamber Ensemble.
Camp will conclude with a performance on Friday, August 9 at 1:00 pm.
NOTE: All students should submit a short video to be used for placement, as well as consideration for masterclass and advanced ensemble opportunities (see information below). Students will be grouped by age and playing level and placed in the appropriate workshops to ensure the most valuable learning/musical experience. Chamber ensembles will be determined and music assigned prior to the start of camp.
Placement videos will be due no later than June 15, 2024. Pre-formed groups in the 2023-2024 program are welcome to apply (and no video submission will be required in these cases).
Audition Requirements:
All students (except for those applying with a pre-formed group) must submit a brief video of current solo repertoire. Videos must be at least 2-3 minutes in length and showcase the student’s current technical abilities.
Video submissions should be sent to Molly McDonald at molly.mcdonald@hochstein.org.
Fee: $20 registration fee; $365* tuition. (Fees are as of Summer 2024.)
