Harold & Joan Feinbloom EXPRESSIVE ARTS PROGRAM: Music, Art, & Dance Therapy
This program receives generous support from the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation.
For more than 45 years, the Expressive Arts Department has served the Rochester community through our music, art, and dance movement programs. At Hochstein, we believe the arts should be accessible to all, and all are truly welcome here. Our students are the heart and soul of our program, and they play a huge role in helping us design new and innovative offerings for our community.
Expressive Arts is a safe and inclusive place, where students can come to express themselves through individualized music, art, and dance therapy, adaptive lessons, and/or wellness sessions. Diversity is vitally important to who we are, and we welcome students of all ages, abilities, identities, and backgrounds into our Expressive Arts program.
Our highly individualized music, art, and dance sessions are appropriate for those interested in addressing personal goals and/or enriching and promoting overall wellness in their lives through their involvement in therapeutic arts.
We believe in a strengths-based, client-centered, whole-person approach to learning, and our sessions address goal areas that directly align with the student's desired outcome(s). These goal areas can include, but are certainly not limited to:
- relieving stress and anxiety
- alleviating pain
- improving cognitive/communication skills
- increasing memory retention and recall
- enhancing emotional expression
- promoting physical rehabilitation
- supporting social emotional development
- promoting overall wellness

Individual Sessions
Individual Expressive Arts sessions are designed and customized to meet the needs, interests, and desired outcomes of each of our students. Along with regular weekly sessions, students will have various opportunities throughout the year to share their art with family, friends, and the community through our Expressive Arts Showcases and Visual Art Galleries. These opportunities offer students a chance to socialize with one another and experience the empowering nature of sharing their talents and hard work with family and friends.
To learn more individual sessions in Expressive Arts, please contact Department Chair Jennifer Phillips at jennifer.phillips@hochstein.org or 585.454.4596 x235. If you are ready to enroll, fill out our Expressive Arts Registration Request Form and Jennifer will get in touch with you.
Group Sessions
Group Expressive Arts sessions are customized to meet the needs, interests and desired outcomes of the clients and agencies we work with. Sessions occur on a weekly basis and run 60 minutes in length. Group sessions can be conducted at Hochstein or out in the community at group residences, residential care facilities, day rehabilitation centers, schools, senior centers, and many other sites throughout the Greater Rochester Area.
