Art Therapy at Hochstein

Art Therapy at Hochstein has been provided since 2013, growing from one student needing to express themselves both musically and visually to our current programming. Art therapy is provided by Master’s Level art therapists and interns and collaboratively with our other disciplines to provide an enriched experience for our students.

2021 Artists' Gallery

Highlighting the talents of our Art Therapy students, we present the 2020/2021 Gallery Showcase!

We acknowledge the students who have participated in art and art therapy at the Hochstein School. We express gratitude for what all the students do and accomplish in their time with us. Each student brings a set of skills that helps the department grow. Thank you for trusting us to support you along your journey at Hochstein.

Jackie Johnson

Jackie writes about Hochstein in her own words:

“I’ve been coming to Hochstein since 2011. At first, I just took art and music therapies. Then I added photography and dance. The classes have helped me develop my talents. My instructors are patient when I’m learning something new. They really listen to what I want to do.”

Jackie explains further, “In my music therapy sessions, I’ve played many hand instruments. Now I’m learning to play the drums and piano. I also enjoy mashing songs to sing for recitals.”

She goes on to say, “Art therapy has let me express my creativity. I’ve worked with many media and techniques. Over the summer, my art therapist helped me design a fairy house. It won ‘most whimsical’ at the Corn Hill Arts Festival and was even displayed at the Garden Factory."

Erica Marotta

Erica has been participating in art therapy at Hochstein since the summer of 2018. She creates art because “…it makes me happy and makes others happy as well.”

When she creates art she typically uses a variety of colors and media. Her favorite art medium is watercolors, “I love painting,” which she uses at home and at Hochstein. When she creates art her favorite subject matter include: nature, seasons, holidays, family, and friends.

During her time at Hochstein, Erica has participated in several Expressive Arts showcases and art shows, since she loves sharing her artwork with her family and others. She plans to continue creating art and sharing her artwork with others.
