Summer Ballet Explorations

Vanessa Watters, Instructor

Our Mini-Dancers, Pre-Ballet, and Ballet 1 participants will explore some of the great ballet works of all time. This summer’s selections are Coppelia, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Alice in Wonderland, and Rodeo! Each week will spotlight a different ballet story and its music, and students will have the opportunity to dance to the music as well as engage in fun activities like picture-drawing or coloring scenes from the ballet. Dancers will explore their creativity while learning about these wonderful stories and the ballets that inspired them.

Please Note: These classes are still the regular Mini, Pre-Ballet, and Ballet 1 Wednesday class times (please see below) only enhanced with the these exciting themes! ...

Week I – Coppelia (music by Léo Delibes)
Franz, a village boy, falls in love with a beautiful girl named Coppelia who sits and reads
in the window of the toyshop. Coppelia turns out to be a doll!

Week II – Swan Lake (music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky)
Under the spell of the evil magician Von Rothbart, Odette and her companions are swans
by day and humans by night. Only if someone swears undying love for Odette will the
spell be broken!

Week III – The Nutcracker (music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky)
Clara receives the special gift of a Nutcracker at her holiday party, and a wonderful
storybook journey begins…

Week IV – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (music by Joby Talbot)

seeking to keep him safe from the fury of the Red Queen.

Week V – Giselle (music by Adolphe Adam)
The ghost-filled ballet tells the story of a beautiful young peasant girl named Giselle.
Giselle falls in love with Albrecht, who turns out to be a prince in disguise.
