August 6-10, 2018
for students entering grades 8-12
Calling all aspiring musical theatre performers! Join Hochstein for our inaugural year of our new musical theatre camp! Participants will engage in solo singing as well as work on scenes and group dance numbers with choreography specifically set for the participants. The week will conclude with an informal presentation on Friday, August 10.
Here's what Deborah Conquest and Cheryl Johnson want you to know about the camp:
"The theme of this inaugural year of Gotta Sing Gotta Dance is Identity-- a topic that seems to come up a lot when working with performers going into grades 8-12. We are using really contemporary songs by the Pasek and Paul writing team-- the geniuses who wrote the music for Dear Evan Hansen, Smash, The Greatest Showman, LaLaLand, Dogfight to name a few... This music is the soundtrack of these teens! We saw the need for a fun, half-day musical theatre camp that would be less intense than some of the other incredible month-long offerings in town. "Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance" is both an opportunity for those new to MT (musical theatre) to dip their toe in the water, without committing to a full-scale production, as well as seasoned veteran performers who are looking for less of a time commitment.
Participants will offer an easy short audition at the beginning of day so we can maximize everyone's talents appropriately. We will sing half the day and dance half the day. The camp will culminate in a performance that will be open to the public and friends and family are encouraged to attend! Music will be sent out ahead of camp so performers can prepare beforehand so we can get right into rehearsal once camp starts. Participants will learn how to be part of the ensemble and there will be opportunities for students to shine as well. Our aim is foster a non-competitive, fun environment of healthy singing and dancing!"
Fee: $10 registration fee; $270* tuition. (Fees are as of Summer 2018.)
