Chamber Music Connection - Carrie Davids

Instrument/Department: Chamber Music Coach, viola

Carrie Davids is a professional violist based in the Rochester, New York, area. She began playing viola at the age of 6, going on to attend The Hartt School of Music Community Division, Interlochen Arts Academy, Eastman School of Music, and Manhattan School of Music. Her primary teachers include Melinda Daetsch (former Luzerne Music Center viola faculty member), David Holland, Carol Rodland, and Karen Ritscher. 

As a chamber musician, she studied with many world-renowned chamber ensembles, including Ying Quartet, Kopelman Quartet, American String Quartet, and Emerson String Quartet. She was a participant in the 2017 Emerson String Quartet Institute at Stony Brook University, winner in the 2016 Fuchs Chamber Music Competition and a finalist for the viola position at Friction Quartet. She also enjoys playing avant-garde music and repertoire written by living composers. She has been featured in many world premieres and participated in Chautauqua’s first-ever “Inter-Arts Collective.” She had a residency with Higher Ground at the United Palace Theatre in New York City and has premiered many works by young composers. 

As an orchestral player, she was a finalist for the principal viola position at Glens Falls Symphony, where she held tenure as a section player until 2023. She is a substitute violist for Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. 

As a teacher, she has been on the faculty at Larchmont Music Academy and Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division. Carrie Davids is currently on faculty at Luzerne Music Center and The Hochstein School.
