Expressive Arts Faculty - Christina Stewart

Instrument/Department: Expressive Arts Music Therapist - voice, piano, guitar, violin
Joined Hochstein faculty in: 2021 - 2023

Christina Stewart is a board-certified music therapist, proudly receiving her certification in January 2020! She grew up in Victor, NY, where she sang in her church choir, played piano and violin, and gave piano lessons to the neighborhood kids. After graduating high school, she was accepted into Nazareth College’s Music Therapy Program, focusing on fulfilling her true life’s purpose.

Stewart completed her internship here at The Hochstein School and loved every minute of it. During her internship, she facilitated music therapy with individuals and groups from toddlers to older adults. She loves being a music therapist because she gets to work with people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds and empowers them through her favorite medium, music. Music has always been an integral part of Christina’s life, and being able to find ways to use the creativity and the process of music to help others reach their goals is an incredible blessing in her life.

Stewart is eager to get creative in this new way of connecting with others and find creative approaches to engage, enhance, and empower!

More About Christina Stewart

Hometown: Victor, NY

What inspires me: My clients, their stories, and their progress

Why the arts matter: Especially in a time like this, creative expression is incredibly important, as well as the feeling of connection to others. Listening to music and sharing musical experiences with others often reminds us that we are not alone by showing us that other people can relate to and understand our experiences.

Favorite things to do in Rochester area: I love going to see live music in Rochester as well as visit the many parks and trails we have.

When I’m not at Hochstein, you can find me: Riding my bike around Rochester.

My favorite local restaurant: Han Noodle Bar

Favorite place(s) to travel: Last year I travelled to Hawaii to live and work on an organic farm and I cannot wait to go back.

Favorite musician: I love all kinds of music but my all-time favorite artist is Joni Mitchell.
