Hochstein Percussion Faculty - Jonathan "JJ" Pereira

Jonathan “JJ” Pereira is a music educator and freelance percussionist based in the Rochester, NY area. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance and Education (2013) as well as a Master of Music degree in Music Education (2016) from Ithaca College. A “jack of all trades,” JJ has extensive experience in teaching and performing on snare drum, mallet percussion, timpani, and drum set in a variety of musical styles. 

In addition to his work at Hochstein, JJ is currently serving as a music educator in the Honeoye Central School District, where he conducts the fifth grade band and teaches private and small group lessons. He can also frequently be found in orchestra pits for musical theatre performances by local schools and community theatre organizations and plays with the up and coming band Big Shadow. 

His primary teachers include Dean Lauria, John McNeil, Jim Tiller, Ruth Cahn, Gordon Stout, Conrad Alexander, and Gregory B. Evans.
