The second week of Hochstein’s weeklong Arts in Action Summer Camps took children ages 5-10 on a journey filled with music, art, movement – and sports, too, with the theme of “Play Ball.” Campers also had a special visit from two RocDogs therapy dogs.

Summer is in full swing here at Hochstein, and we have quite the happy campers! The first week of summer camps included Arts in Action, with daily music, art, and movement classes for kids ages 5-10; Comics & Manga Workshop, for teenagers interested in exploring how comic books are made; and the debut of Musical Leadership through Basic Conducting, where students learned about what it means to be a leader, both on and off the podium.

Hochstein proudly celebrates Juneteenth and the historical significance of this day.

Congratulations to three members of Hochstein Youth Singers and Hochstein Singers who are graduating high school this year – Maeve Rosati, Luciano (Lucci) Pagano, and Ada Coté.

Fifteen Hochstein students in grades 5 to 12 will be recognized at Hochstein’s Honors Convocation on Friday, May 31 at 7:00 pm, representing two of The Hochstein School’s programs for the most advanced students: the winners of Merit Scholarships and candidates for completion of the Honors Certificate Program. Students also will perform solos during the Honors Convocation.

Congratulations to Hochstein violin students Noah Busch and Joshua Lin, who performed in the final round of the Manolov International Music Competition in Garden City, NY on May 11. They each won a silver medal/second prize for their respective age groups! 

Congratulations to the 26 graduating seniors in the 2024 Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra!

On April 6, the Hochstein Youth Guitar Quartet, led by Dr. Timothy Shannon, performed at the Little Theatre, before a concert by French guitar phenomenon Thomas Viloteau, part of the Rochester Classical Guitar Festival. 

As part of a collaboration with Joseph Avenue Arts and Culture Alliance (JAACA), Hochstein faculty members Herb Smith (trumpet) and Wynton Rice (dance) led a free Jazz & Dance Workshop this past Saturday at the Baden Street Settlement on Joseph Avenue.

On March 30, more than 100 students, family members, and friends of the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra (HYSO) left Rochester for a weeklong tour to Italy. Read Casey Springstead's daily travelogue, watch video from a TV appearance, and see lots of photos from the tour.
