A full circle moment at Hochstein …

Eliza Shriver is one of Hochstein’s newest Expressive Arts faculty members, having joined us back in the spring after she completed her music therapy internship at The Hochstein School.

Eliza has degrees in Music Therapy, Psychology, and Applied Bassoon from SUNY Fredonia and extensive experience performing in a variety of ensembles. She also received clinical training in a variety of settings including schools, residential centers, and hospitals with both children and adults. She knows first-hand how therapeutic music can be for any individual at any stage of life.

Eliza began her love of the arts at the age of 2 when she was a student in a Music FUNdamentals class taught by Barb Bonisteel, or ‘Miss Barb’ here at Hochstein. Now, in addition to leading music therapy sessions, she is a teacher for these engaging classes for young children – a true full-circle moment!

She says, “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to get to know our youngest musicians and the wonderful families that support them. The Hochstein community was a huge part of my childhood and it’s so special to now be calling my former teachers colleagues. In the same rooms that I first experienced the power of connection through music, I’m now able to create and strengthen those connections over a decade later, which is truly magical.”
