On October 4, The Hochstein School welcomed its very own Little Free Library. These small but mighty community cornerstones come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but all share the goal of promoting free book exchange in their neighborhoods, allowing people to share their most beloved stories with others.
The library came about through the combined efforts of Girl Scout Troop 60105, led by troop leader Kelly Runke. The troop began this project last year through their Think Like an Engineer Journey, where Girl Scouts explored engineering concepts through hands-on activities. This journey concluded with a community service project that involved gifting Hochstein its first Little Free Library.
Troop members and contributors to this project include: Alison Henry, Olivia Colunio, Shayna Garman, Allison Runke, Mackenzie Tobin, Madalyn Gerard, Molly Dunn, and Victoria Foos. Artistic credit goes to Shayna and Olivia for their design.
Madalyn Gerard and Alison Henry both are students at Hochstein. Madalyn is involved with Hochstein Youth Singers, Hochstein Singers, and takes violin lessons with Hochstein string faculty member Kathy Tarantelli. Alison studies voice with voice faculty member Deborah Norin-Kuehn.
The Little Free Library is located in the first-floor lounge of the main Hochstein building at 50 N. Plymouth Ave., Rochester, NY 14614. We want to thank Madalyn, Alison, and all of Troop 60105 (pictured here at a recent troop activity) for the hard work and dedication that led to this exciting new addition to the Hochstein community.
We hope that students, staff, and faculty of all ages will enjoy exchanging their books!
