The second week of Hochstein’s weeklong Arts in Action Summer Camps took children ages 5-10 on a journey filled with music, art, movement – and sports, too, with the theme of “Play Ball.”
During the week, the campers had a special visit from two RocDogs therapy dogs – Bailey and Cocoa. They had a chance to pet the dogs and ask questions from their owners – Erica and Rachel, respectively. The kids learned that both dogs are female and Bailey is 3 years old and Cocoa is 4.
The kids asked what the dogs’ favorite activities are. Bailey loves to play Frisbee. Cocoa can do tricks, including flips, receiving a treat in return. And they both love spending time with people, staying calm even in a room full of excited kids.
Both dogs are part of the RocDog program, which brings emotional support dogs, therapy dogs, or service dogs to the community, each one trained to bring comfort, assistance, and joy to those in need.
The camp week wrapped up with a special performance for families, with the campers singing songs about soccer, baseball – “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” of course – and more. And they sang the “Welcome to Hochstein” camp theme song, which starts and ends each camp finale.
“We love to sing, and dance, and play our instruments!”
