How to Practice is a course covering practical and effective practice methods for use on all instruments. By the end of the course, students will know:
- how to set realistic and specific goals for each practice session,
- how to prepare and plan for an upcoming performance,
- how to make consistent progress in difficult passages using concrete practice strategies and learn about other practice-related topics.
The course consists of short discussions that will focus on one practice topic per week. Every week, students will have a short written assignment based on that week’s discussion listing how they applied concepts from the lecture into their own practicing. There will be opportunities in class for students to demonstrate their application of practice concepts, to ask questions, and for discussion.
FEE: $10 registration fee; $153* tuition. $117 if enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein. (Fees are as of Winter 2021.)
