Professional Practice Masterclasses

Professional Practice Masterclasses are designed for intermediate and advanced dance students, pre-professionals, and dance educators. Participants should have at least two years of serious dance training to participate.

Masterclasses take place on Saturdays from 1:30-3:00 pm, unless otherwise noted. See below for the schedule.

Afro-Caribbean Masterclass

Let’s get into the vibes of the Caribbean! Enjoy a movement class introducing the traditional folk and contemporary dances of Jamaica and the Caribbean. Taught by Nicolette Ferguson, who spent 21 years performing internationally with the Garth Fagan Dance Company, this intermediate to advanced level class will engage your mind, body, and soul. Attire is bare feet and comfortable clothing.

Intermediate-Advanced Contemporary Modern Technique

Participants will delve into principles of embodiment, centering, body conditioning, and dynamic alignment to enhance stability and freedom in their movement. This special masterclass is part of a weekend dance residency that includes a beginning contemporary improv class and a choreography workshop. Click here for more information.

Modern Dance/Horton

Adriene Hodge, who performed with the Garth Fagan Dance Company for six years, will be teaching a Modern dance class grounded in Horton and Fagan Techniques.

Latin Jazz 

This class addresses the question of how to apply the principles of jazz aesthetics to enhance the execution of specific salsa dance techniques. Jazz dance includes improvisation, syncopation, expressiveness, and call and response, incorporating elements of Afro-Cuban, Puerto Rican, and other Latin American styles.
