Live from Hochstein: Early Music Celebration
Event summary
Music by Strozzi and Purcell, in conjunction with Rochester Early Music Festival. Featuring Warner Iveris, theorbo and baroque guitar; Tyler Cassidy-Heacock, soprano; Joseph Finetti, baritone.
Event details

Lost is My Quiet: Love Songs for Voices, Guitar, and Theorbo presents songs of Barbara Strozzi and Henry Purcell as well as music for solo guitar, exemplifying the fiery and passionate love songs of the Baroque period. Though the music was written in the 17th century, these works express emotions that resonate powerfully with our contemporary experiences. Ranging from the tortured longing illustrated by the groundbreaking female composer Barbara Strozzi in L'Eraclito Amoroso to the celebration of partnership in Henry Purcell's duet "You Say 'Tis Love," we explore the drama and beauty of Baroque love songs and instrumental music.

The Rochester Early Music Festival presents two weeks of music from the 13-17th centuries every year in celebration of the richness and depth of our region's early music community. This special repertoire includes instrumental, solo vocal, and choral music for modern and historical instruments. Most performances take place in the historic Calvary St. Andrews Church, a beautiful venue nestled in the heart of the eclectic South Wedge neighborhood, and festival offerings are largely offered free of charge or at a nominal price. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/RocEarlyMusicFestival.

A key feature of the Spotlight on Faculty concerts is that Hochstein faculty members work together to create their own program and submit proposals to perform on the series.

Each concert begins at 7:00 pm, lasts about an hour, and is followed by a “meet the artists” reception.

Admission is $10 per person, with a $20 family maximum. Concerts are free to Hochstein students/families, faculty, and staff.
