JAZZ STUDIES
Under the leadership of Mambo Kings’ Richard DeLaney, the Jazz Studies Program is designed to provide aspiring jazz musicians with performance experience, standard performance practice, and exposure to repertoire through small ensemble settings and improvisation and jazz styles in individual lessons. The development of musicianship and stagecraft through weekly rehearsals and coachings gives the student an opportunity to explore jazz as a new venue or to build upon and fine tune skills that have already been learned. Ensembles will have the opportunity to perform in concerts and in community events as well as in the Jazz Master Class Series, which provides students the opportunity to perform for and with professional jazz musicians in an informal recital setting.
Participation in the Jazz Studies Program is open to the following instruments: piano, acoustic and electric bass, drum set, electric guitar, woodwinds, and brass.
