Event details

Hochstein Singers and Youth Singers, directed by Maryellen Giese and Jonathan Thomas Madden, perform a seasonal program including songs like “Carol of the Bells,” John Lennon’s “Imagine,” and “El Cielo Canta Alegria (Heaven is Singing for Joy).” The concert also includes “Crowded Table,” a song by The Highwomen that won Best Country Song at the 2020 Grammy Awards; “Grandma's Feather Bed,” made famous by John Denver; and “If Wishes Had Wings,” with the word “peace” in 20 languages.

The Hochstein Little Singers, directed by Shana Kohler, continue that theme with “When Peace Begins with Me.” They also sing about winter, friendship, and “My Favorite Things.”

Near the end of the concert, the Youth Singers will be joined by family members, friends, Hochstein faculty, and members of the Rochester Oratorio Society for the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. Little Singers and Hochstein Youth Singers will join to sing the Zulu song “Siyahamba” and Mel Tormé’s “The Christmas Song,” with audience singalong.
