An incredible adventure awaits as we introduce young movers to the magical land of ballet and creative dance! Our mini-dancers will let off some serious steam as they they learn the dance basics of arm and leg positions as well as movements such as tendu, pllié, relevé, and passé through the use of games and songs. Get ready to twirl, leap, and jump like a graceful fairy or a daring superhero. It's going to be a dance-tastic journey filled with laughter, joy, and fabulous moves! Consider this the first steps in your ballet journey! In this class, you'll learn the basics of introductory ballet technique with age-appropriate games and exercises that will boost your body awareness and let your imagination soar through captivating movement exploration. With every leap and pirouette, you will be on your way to discovering the true magic of ballet!

Welcome to Ballet I, the exciting first step into the world of dedicated technical training! Aspiring dancers will focus on enhancing coordination, grace, musicality, flexibility, and balance in this sequential program. Fundamental ballet techniques and vocabularies will be introduced as well as barre work, adagio and allegro movements, and dancing in unison.

Diane Lewis, Instructor | Wednesdays, 5:45-6:45 pm | Ages 7-12

Welcome to Ballet II, the next chapter in formal ballet training! In this level, we build upon the solid foundation laid in Ballet I. Body coordination, grace, musicality, and refinement of technical ability will become more precise, as you move to music. As you progress through Ballet II, you'll discover the true artistry of ballet through more challenging and intricate routines as you take your skills to the next level!

Diane Lewis, Instructor | Thursdays, 5:30-7:00 pm | Ages 12+

Continued training in the Russian (Vaganova) technique. It is recommended that students take both Ballet III and Ballet III/IV classes each week in order to experience a higher level of achievement. If one class per week is chosen, the instructor will make recommendations as to which class is the most appropriate for the student’s age and ability.

Students who are technically capable and physically developed have the option of participating in Pointe class as part of their Vaganova training. The Preparation/Pointe/Variations class will focuses on developing the coordination, muscular strength, and placement for pointe work. Emphasis is placed on the proper foot, body alignment, and core strength needed to safely and successfully dance “en pointe.”

This class introduces students to the basics of the Russian (Vaganova) ballet technique through barre work and preparation for pirouettes, adagios, and allegro movements. Also covered are the basics of ballet vocabulary and technique. Great for developing flexibility, strength, coordination, musicality, and grace.

Lunchtime Yoga

Sandra Boysen Sluberski, RYT500, Instructor

For ages 14 and up
All levels - no prerequisite. Beginners welcome!

Please note: Safety protocols will be followed for in-person classes including daily health screenings, appropriate distancing, and masks – when applicable. See details here.

This lunchtime class will give participants a chance to learn gentle stretching and stress-relieving yoga from an instructor who has been a professional musician for more than 40 years and who understands the need to work with, and not against, muscle tightness and fatigue.

Sandra Boysen Sluberski is an RYT500 yoga instructor, registered with Yoga Alliance, and a 20-year member of Hochstein’s voice faculty.

Note: A non-slip yoga mat is recommended.

Fee: $10 registration fee; $102* tuition; $78 for students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein during summer session. Discounts may apply for students enrolled in multiple dance classes. (Fees are as of Summer 2021.)

SPECIAL DANCE SAVINGS: Take one Ballet or Dance Styles class at full tuition, get a second (or more) Ballet or Dance Styles class at 50% off! 50% discount applies to the lower tuition fee. For students already receiving a discount for individual lessons, the second additional class is 50% of full tuition (not the discounted amount).
