Grab your flute and join us as we take our technical and interpretive skills on the flute to the next level with this fun virtual camp! The Hochstein School and the Rochester Flute Association are excited to offer this online opportunity for a morning camp session focusing on important flute skills and an afternoon session offering an array of mini-lessons, composing and arranging, and a virtual ensemble project.
The morning session will include workshops on tone, scales and arpeggios, etudes, solo repertoire, and more, designed to help you refine your playing and develop a foundation for your daily practice routine.
The afternoon session, “Flute in Other Ways," will include the opportunity to focus on more creative aspects of music-making as a flutist. These offerings may include work in small virtual ensembles, composing and arranging (learning how to use free, online notation programs), and mini-lessons with our instructors.
From 12:00-1:00 pm every day, students from both sessions will join together to observe and participate in guest artist experiences and group discussions, as well as yoga and mindfulness for musicians. This will not be a playing session, so those participating can eat lunch while watching or chatting in a group discussion. Sign up for both morning and afternoon sessions and experience a full-day camp!
The daily sessions will be held via Zoom. A Zoom-compatible device is required for participation, such as a smartphone, laptop, or tablet that has a basic video recording capability and a microphone.
One full-tuition scholarship is available to a flutist attending the full day (both sessions) of RFA/Hochstein Flute Camp. The Alleen Fraser Scholarship is provided through the Rochester Flute Association. The recipient will be chosen by video audition. Apply online at rfaonline.org for instructions, or contact RFA Education Director Kaitlin Schneider with questions at Kateschneider2215@gmail.com. Scholarship application deadline, with a video recording of one piece that shows the student's best playing, is due by July 8, 2020. Instructions for uploading your video will be emailed after the application is received.
Fee: $10 registration fee; $185* tuition per session; Morning and Afternoon Sessions Combined: $310* tuition. (Fees are as of Summer 2020.)
