Morton Gould’s Tap Dance Concerto premiered in Rochester in 1952. For the 70th anniversary of this monumental work, dancer Cheryl Johnson showcases the classical side of her tap-dancing career performing selections from the concerto, accompanied by Dr. Gary Palmer on piano. The program also includes Cheryl dancing to a selection of classical music for children by Béla Bartók, Robert Schumann, and others, performed live by Paula Rodney Bobb on toy piano.
Admission at the door is $10 per person, with a $20 family maximum. Concerts are free to Hochstein students/families, faculty, and staff. The concert lasts about an hour, and is followed by a “meet the artists” reception.
Audience will be asked to follow Hochstein’s COVID safety plan in place at the time of the concert: https://hochstein.org/About/Hochstein-COVID-Safety-Information
The Spotlight on Faculty concert series is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature.
