Members of the Nazareth College music faculty celebrate the artistry of women composers during the second Women in Music Festival

The program includes Sonatine for Clarinet and Piano by Zenobia Powell Perry, a prolific Black American composer and pianist who studied with Darius Milhaud and at the Eastman School with R. Nathaniel Dett. Also on the program are Pièces Romantiques by French composer Cécile Chaminade; Deux morceaux for violin and piano by French composer Lili Boulanger, the first female winner of the Prix de Rome composition prize; The Perfected Life by contemporary American composer Lori Laitman, which is set to poetry of Emily Dickinson; and Golden Hour by contemporary composer Cait Nishimura for French horn and piano.

This concert is part of the Women in Music Festival at Nazareth College. The festival includes concerts and a panel discussion, all of which serve as a catalyst for purposeful dialogue, future collaborations, and engaging performances for our Rochester community. 

The Hochstein School’s free noontime Live from Hochstein concert series will be hosted by WXXI Classical’s Mona Seghatoleslami and broadcast live on WXXI Classical. Listen to the concert at WXXI-FM 91.5, WXXY 90.3, or online at https://www.wxxiclassical.org. Listen to an encore broadcast on WXXI Classical 91.5 FM at 10:00 pm the day of the concert.

* Masks and vaccination are encouraged but not required. Please note that only bottled water is allowed in the newly renovated hall.
