Whether you’re a child or an adult, individual instruction is at the heart of Hochstein’s comprehensive program and is the most effective way to improve your musical skills.
Lessons are available in all orchestral instruments—as well as in composition, electric bass, acoustic and electric guitar, harp, percussion, piano, and Suzuki violin, viola, cello, and harp. Lessons can be scheduled on weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays. You may begin at any time during the year. See the navigation menu for details on individual lessons, Suzuki Strings, Music FUNdamentals, group lessons, and music theory classes.
Because a certain degree of physical development is essential to playing an instrument or singing, Hochstein subscribes to the following minimum ages:
- Bagpipes – age 8 (new)
- Composition (including Songwriting) – age 12
- Guitar – age 5
- Traditional Harp – age 9 (some prior piano study preferred)
- Suzuki Harp – age 5
- Percussion (including Drum Set) – age 9
- Piano ** – age 5
- Suzuki Strings – age 3
- Traditional Strings – age 6 (new)
- Voice – age 12
- Wind Instruments – age 9

**Acoustic piano (or a digital piano with 88 full-size, weighted keys) in the home is required for piano lessons.
We provide a wide variety of group classes. Our classes for children of all ages emphasize fun, creativity, and movement. Adults can relax in the company of like-minded classmates who are dedicated to trying something new, honing a skill, or enjoying going in-depth on a topic of study.
NOTE: See the Ensembles section for other opportunities in: Orchestras, Wind Symphonies, Choral Singing, Chamber Music, Instrument Ensembles, Jazz Combos, and Rock Bands.
