Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus: Fabulous 40th - Friends Forever
Event summary
This RGMC reunion is planned to build the friendships that have been formed over 40 years and with hundreds of chorus members, directors, accompanists, board members, and audience members.

RGMC celebrates the esprit de corps that has been developed as a result of the RGMC legacy with the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus, Ithaca Gay Men’s Chorus, Syracuse LGBTQ chorus, and the Rochester Women’s Chorus. 

RGMC is honored to welcome to the stage members of the Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus, the Rochester Women's Community Chorus, and the Flower City Pride Band. 

Alumni of the chorus are invited to convene and join the chorus as we perform music geared to these cherished friendships and memories.

Doors open at 6:30 pm. 

Tickets are $25 general admission, $12 kids 14 and under.

Hochstein at High Falls: Watkins & the Rapiers
Event summary
Join us for a free lunchtime concert at Hochstein at High Falls, featuring Watkins & the Rapiers.

Location: Outer parking lot at 4 Commercial Street, corner of Browns Race. Click here for a map.  

Please note that this is a new location for this summer, due to pending construction on the Pont de Rennes.

The concerts are hosted by WXXI Classical’s Mona Seghatoleslami and WRUR Station Manager Ryan Yarmel. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating and lunch. Each performance will run approximately 40 minutes.

Watkins & the Rapiers play an eclectic mix of acoustic music incorporating echoes of Cajun, country, jug band music, reggae, soul, and swing. The band’s repertoire includes more than 60 quirky original songs written by band members, as well as covers of songs by artists as diverse as The Band, Travelling Wilburys, Steve Earle, and Colorblind James, among others. The band has been rocking out in the Greater Rochester area since January 1996, when the band was formed on a lark to fill an empty performance slot at the Rose & Crown Pub. Harmonies of Freedom: Honoring the Douglass Family Legacy through Music
Event summary
A special one-night-only evening of performances and readings celebrating the Douglass family in Rochester and featuring Douglass family members, local musicians and dancers, and others.

Directed and led by the creative team of Broadway actors and singers Paul Oakley Stovall (Hamilton), Nikhil Saboo (Mean Girls, Dear Evan Hansen), and Yassmin Alers (Rent, Get on Your Feet, Geva Theatre production of In the Heights) performing original songs exploring Frederick Douglass' travels in Ireland as well as songs from the musical American Prophet that debuted at Arena Stage in Washington, DC in 2022.

This special #DouglassWeek event includes: 

  • Remembrances from Kenneth B. Morris, Jr., great-great-great grandson of Frederick and Anna Douglass;
  • Performance by PJ Pennewell of Garth Fagan Dance;
  • Performance by Dunwoody Dance group;
  • Original songs, compositions and stories from Paul Oakley Stovall, Nikhil Saboo, Yassmin Alers, and others;
  • Selections from American Prophet, the Douglass musical that made its debut in Washington, DC in 2022;
  • Readings and speeches by Hon. Richard A. Dollinger and others

Tickets are $30 general admission, $15 students (plus fees). Note: Tickets will only be available as pre-sale online, no tickets at the door.

Together since 1995, Mambo Kings are enjoying great success as Upstate New York’s foremost Latin jazz ensemble, and have earned a national reputation for their explosive blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms and jazz improvisation. They have appeared in Pops concerts with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, and with orchestras in Baltimore, Vancouver, Detroit, Dallas, Naples (FL), Portland (OR), Alabama, Chicago, Austin, Virginia, and Buffalo. The band consists of Mambo Kings’ musical director and pianist Richard DeLaney, percussionist Freddy Colón, saxophonist John Viavattine, bassist Hector Diaz, and percussionist Tony Padilla. www.mambokingdom.com

Finger Lakes Choral Festival: The Seasons
Event summary
The Finger Lakes Choral Festival Chorus and Orchestra perform selections from Franz Joseph Haydn's majestic secular oratorio "The Seasons" and other works.

The Chorus will sing wonderful choruses from “The Seasons: Spring and Summer” by Franz Joseph Haydn and a beautiful anthem, “O Holy Lord,” by Nathaniel Dett, who called Rochester home.

Accompanist Ines Draskovic will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto #20 in D Minor with the Festival Orchestra, all under the direction of Eric Townell.

The concert is free. Donations of clothing, food, and personal care items accepted at the door will benefit Action for a Better Community.

Hanna PK is a blues pianist and singer born and raised in South Korea and based in Rochester. She has been building a strong local following with her wide-ranging repertoire, the power of her voice and piano playing, and the way she can rock the house! She has a dynamic songwriting style that ranges from a funky tune with socially conscious lyrics to a mournful slow blues, from a pop-edged ballad to an uplifting swinging number, and from barrelhouse boogie to jazz. https://www.hannapk.com/index.html

For this concert, Hanna will be joined by drummer Tony Hiler and Miguel Hernandez, a bassist from Louisiana.
