Annie Jacobs-Perkins, known for her “ability to make the audience forget where they [are]” and “hypnotic lyricism” (Alex Ross, The New Yorker), is a senior Trustee Scholar studying cello performance with Ralph Kirshbaum at USC’s Thornton School of Music. As the cellist in two acclaimed trios, the Callisto Piano Trio and the Aristeia Clarinet Trio, Annie enjoys an active chamber music schedule in Los Angeles. In 2016, the Callisto Piano Trio became the youngest group in the 43-year history of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition to win a top prize in the senior division. After attending the International Holland Music Sessions in the summer of 2017, the Callisto Trio was selected to participate in the New Masters on Tour Program, and will give their debut recital in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in January of 2019.

Annie is principal cellist of the Thornton Symphony Orchestra. After sitting as principal of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for four consecutive years, Annie was selected at age 17 to be the associate principal for the New York String Orchestra’s 2014 concerts in Carnegie Hall. She is also the winner of many solo awards and competitions in her hometown of Rochester, NY. She earned a diploma from the Hochstein Honors Certificate Program—under the tutelage of Kathleen Murphy Kemp and Doleen Hood—as well as a Pre-Collegiate Diploma in Music Theory from the Eastman Community Music School.

Benjamin-Hopkins_webJoining her on piano is Benjamin Hopkins, winner of the 2008 David Hochstein Recital Competition. He made his debut with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra after decisively winning all categories of the Rochester Philharmonic League’s Young Artist Auditions. In 2013, he made his New York City debut and performed with orchestras in Spain and California. In summer 2016, he performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with Dylan Kennedy, Annie Jacobs-Perkins, and the Hochstein Alumni Orchestra at Hochstein. Also in 2016, he was named the Outstanding Master of Music Graduate from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, and was honored for his contributions to the school as a teaching assistant. Hopkins is continuing his doctoral studies at the University of British Columbia under the instruction of Corey Hamm, and appeared with the UBC Symphony this fall as the winner of the university’s concerto competition.
