Musicians in Hochstein’s Sinfonia (grades 4-9, directed by John Fetter and Terry Smith), and Concertino Strings (grades 1-5, directed by Marcos Kreutzer) orchestral ensembles give a free joint afternoon concert.

Hochstein Concertino Strings will perform Prelude and Fugue by Brian Balmages, written in the style of J.S. Bach; the familiar Hornpipe from Handel’s “Water Music;” and the exciting “Gargoyles” by Doug Spata.

Then Hochstein Sinfonia Strings performs “Isma’a (Listen),” a setting of traditional Arabic themes by Eastman alum Leanne Darling; a Fantasia on the 17th-century French folk song Picardy; the dramatic Baroque overture from Purcell’s “The Gordian Knot Untied;” and the up-tempo “Today” by Robert Gardner. Gardner in fact has a Hochstein connection - he conducted both Philharmonia and Sinfonia Strings at Hochstein from 1999 to 2003.
