HochStrings Fall Concert: Strings as Voice

Return
22 Nov, 2024 6:00 PM — 22 Nov, 2024 7:00 PM    50 North Plymouth Avenue Rochester New York United States
Event summary
The HochStrings Adult Chamber Orchestra, directed by Pia Liptak, performs their fall concert.
Event details

Adult students in HochStrings work during each 10-week session on learning repertoire pieces in a collaborative, friendly environment with a final performance at the end of each session. The concert is free.

For this concert, Pia has selected music that has the qualities of song and breathing – the sound of string instruments is so often very close to the human voice. The program spans almost 400 years – from Renaissance composers Tallis and Palestrina to the early 20th century Danish composer Carl Nielsen. The concert also includes a lively and humorous suite by English composer Armstrong Gibbs and a Russian turn-of-the century “Autumn Leaves” (unrelated to the jazz standard version).

The Hochstein Orchestra and Chamber Music Programs are supported in part by the Louise Alfreda Hill Memorial Fund.

Hochstein programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

Hochstein programs are also made possible by the Monroe County Legislature; Adam Bello, Monroe County Executive.
