The program includes John Cheetham’s Quintet for Woodwinds, which Antara Winds recorded on their 2008 CD, Antara Music. Interestingly, the work was commissioned for and dedicated to the Missouri Arts Woodwind Quintet, which included W. Peter Kurau, who was on the faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia for several years. The group is excited to perform this piece with Kurau as he returns to Antara Winds.
Danza de Mediodía (Noon Dance) by the Mexican composer Arturo Márquez is inspired by the cafe music of Mexico City and seems particularly appropriate for a midday concert! The program also includes the charming Dix-Sept Variations by the French musician Jean-Michel Damase.

Founded in 1982, Antara Winds have appeared regularly on Live from Hochstein and have performed extensively throughout the Greater Rochester area including appearances with the Rochester Oratorio Society, Perinton Concert Band, and Society for Chamber Music in Rochester.
Antara Winds delights in bringing audiences the music of contemporary composers. They have premiered two works written specifically for Antara: Verne Reynolds’ Antara Music (2003), and Libby Larsen’s Blue Windows: After Marc Chagall (2005).
