Eastman School of Music professors Michael Wayne and Chiao-Wen Cheng perform music for clarinet and piano, including works by Claude Debussy, Phillipe Gaubert, and Niels Gade; “Hommage to Khachaturian” by the Hungarian clarinetist Béla Kovács; and “Peace” by the contemporary American composer Jessie Montgomery.

Michael Wayne is Associate Professor of Clarinet at Eastman and also a faculty member at the National Orchestral Institute and annual coach at the New World Symphony. He has held faculty positions at the New England Conservatory of Music and the Tanglewood Music Center and was a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, and the Kansas City Symphony.
A versatile musician and educator, Taiwanese pianist Chiao-Wen Cheng has performed as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician in major venues throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Cheng has become a sought-after collaborative partner through her sensitive playing, vibrant sound colors, and detailed voicing. She joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as Principal Keyboard in 2022.
The Hochstein School’s free noontime Live from Hochstein concert series will be hosted by WXXI Classical’s Mona Seghatoleslami and broadcast live.
