This free concert is led by Director John Fetter with HPO Assistant Director Matt Osika and HSS Assistant Director Terry Smith.
The HSS opens the concert with Danza for Strings by Czech/American composer Václav Nelhýbel and then the last two movements from Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 in D, “Classical,” written in the style of Haydn and Mozart.
The HPO’s half of the concert includes Beethoven’s powerful Egmont Overture and two different musical settings of the story from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet – one from Prokofiev’s ballet music and the other from Tchaikovsky’s symphonic poem.
