Spring Concert of Young Voices

Event summary
Young singers in Hochstein’s choral program will be featured in this free afternoon concert.
Event details

Maryellen Giese directs Hochstein Singers and Youth Singers with Jonathan Thomas Madden, Assistant Director and Composer in Residence, and Yasuko Kelly, Accompanist. Shana Kohler directs Hochstein Little Singers with Jamilya Arzanesh, Accompanist.

The program includes a brand new piece, “The Sheen of a Peacock,” composed by Jon Madden with the help of our Hochstein Youth Singers. Shea Lime from St. Olaf College wrote the lyrics inspired by the image of a peacock in the Youth Singers mural in Room 11 and the notion of acceptance and helping others.

The concert also includes music from the Broadway musical Pippin, Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies,” Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and a selection from John Williams’ score to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, among other works.

Guest musicians on oboe, flute, harp, and fiddle will join the singers, and the concert ends with two songs by Youth Singers and Little Singers combined. This concert is dedicated in loving memory of Alice Pratt.
