This free concert is led by Director John Fetter with HPO Assistant Director Matt Osika and HSS Assistant Director Terry Smith.
The HSS opens the concert with the driving rhythms of Gauntlet by Doug Spata; the fourth movement of Haydn’s Symphony No. 32; and Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) by Richard Meyer, which mixes traditional Mexican themes with the Dies Irae.
The HPO’s half of the concert includes Johann Strauss’s Overture to Die Fledermaus, “Austrian Peasant Dance” from Gustav Mahler’s First Symphony, and the fourth movement of Jean Sibelius’s Second Symphony.
