Event details

Please Note: Because of concerns with COVID-19 exposure, this event has been cancelled. Tune in to WXXI Classical 91.5 during the lunch hour to hear selections from previous Live from Hochstein seasons.  Tune in at 9:00 pm to hear a full broadcast from a previous season.

The program entitled “Celebrating an Era – Chamber Music from the 19th and 20th century” includes Ernst Dohnányi’s Serenade for String Trio, Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-flat major, and Camille Saint-Saëns’ Élégie for Violin and Piano.

The works on this program were composed between 1842-1920 and represent an era when many beautiful chamber music pieces were created. The program selections were written before, during and after David Hochstein’s lifetime – and one was composed the year the Hochstein School was established.

The Sibley Chamber Players brings together musicians from Eastman, Hochstein, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra to collaborate on chamber music projects and to perform throughout the community. The ensemble is named in honor of Emily Sibley Watson and the Sibley family for their role in supporting fine art and music in Rochester and in celebration of the connections that exist today between the institutions they helped to establish and support.

The Hochstein School’s free lunchtime “brown bag” Live from Hochstein concert series takes place in the Hochstein Performance Hall and is broadcast live on WXXI Classical 91.5/ 90.3 FM, hosted by Classical 91.5’s Mona Seghatoleslami.

Listen to an encore broadcast on WXXI Classical 91.5 FM at 9:00 pm the day of the concert.

Sidney and Barbara Sobel have provided continuous underwriting of the Live from Hochstein Broadcast & Concert Series since 1993.

Live from Hochstein is also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
