Event details

This Spotlight on Faculty concert will explore two masterworks of the chamber music repertoire – Schubert’s Quartetsatz in C Minor and String Quintet in C Major. Schubert is well known as a song composer, and these works include some beautiful and memorable melodies.

For his string quintet, Schubert used a rare combination of instruments: two violins, viola, and two cellos. The second cello creates fullness and depth beyond the capabilities of a string quartet, which hopefully will be apparent with the string quartet and quintet presented side by side. The musicians will guide the audience through the quintet with a musical map, helping to navigate this large and complex work of music.

These five musicians have played together many times throughout the years, but this is their first time playing all together as a quintet and they are excited to share some of their favorite chamber works with the audience.

Admission at the door is $10 per person, with a $20 family maximum. A “meet the artists” reception follows the concert.

The Spotlight on Faculty concert series is generously supported by Hochstein donors. It is also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

This event is supported by Wegmans Food Markets.
