Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus

Return
04 May, 2019 8:30 PM — 04 May, 2019 10:30 PM    50 North Plymouth Avenue Rochester New York United States
Event summary
Under Artistic Director and Conductor Oleh Mahlay, the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus returns to the Rochester area to present its Centennial Concert Program.
Event details

Founded in 1918, the all-male Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus has a long and proud history of representing Ukrainian bandura and choral music on the international stage. Today, the majority of Chorus members are second- and third-generation Americans and Canadians.

Fortified by a whole new generation of young musicians, the Chorus has captivated audiences in major concert halls in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Ukraine since immigrating to North America from Europe in 1949.

The Ukrainian bandura combines the musical characteristics of both the lute and the harp. So it produces a sound similar to a harpsichord but with a wider range and tone. The Ukrainian bandura was historically used as an instrument for vocal accompaniment. The Ukrianian Bandurist Chorus continues this tradition by combining the two great loves of the Ukrainian people: the artistry of a bandura orchestra with choral singing.

Tickets are $30 adult, $10 student (under 21). For tickets and more information, visit http://bandura.org/2019/03/rochester-may-4-ubc-centennial-concert/. Tickets also available at Ukrainian Federal Credit Union. For more information, please call (585) 747-5657.
