The winter concert of the HochStrings Adult Chamber Orchestra, directed by Pia Liptak, includes some surprise twists. The winter movement of Piazzolla’s “Four Seasons of Buenos Aires” incorporates quotes from Vivaldi’s “Summer” – since it is, after all, summer in Argentina this time of year. Teddy Bor’s “Bach at the Double” turns Bach’s double violin concerto into a swing trio and is unexpectedly jazzy.
Latin American rhythms show up in “America” from Bernstein’s “West Side Story.” The program also includes Boccherini’s famous Minuet from his quintet – perhaps better known from the Suzuki version for one instrument and piano.
The concert is free and open to the public.
