Live from Hochstein – Famous Melodies: A Piano Duo Celebration

Two pianists become the orchestra in this program of famous melodies arranged for piano duo and duet. Featuring Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute, Mars from The Planets by Holst, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, and other well-known pieces audience members are sure to enjoy.

A native of Montana, pianist Elinor Freer has built a versatile career as soloist, chamber musician, teacher, and artistic administrator. She has performed throughout the US, Europe, Mexico, and China; her performances have aired on National Public Radio and on “Performance Today;” and she has recorded for Cedille Records. For 10 years, she and her husband, cellist David Ying, directed the Skaneateles Festival and garnered a CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Freer currently serves as Associate Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music.

A member of Hochstein’s piano faculty, Doleen Hood made her solo debut at age 16 with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the D’Angelo School of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music, she has extensive professional work as a collaborative pianist and coach and has performed on recitals and concert series throughout the US and Europe. She has held faculty and staff positions at Nazareth College, MacPhail School, Crown College, and Bethel College. For many years she has been an active supporter of Hochstein’s Chamber Music Connection program, both as a coordinator and a coach, and she also serves as the faculty piano juror for the Hochstein Honors Certificate Program.

The Hochstein School’s free noontime Live from Hochstein concert series will be hosted by WXXI Classical’s Mona Seghatoleslami and broadcast live. Listen to the concert on WXXI Classical at 91.5 FM, 90.3 FM, or online at https://www.wxxiclassical.org. Listen to an encore broadcast on WXXI Classical 91.5 FM at 10:00 pm the day of the concert.

Please note that only bottled water is allowed in the newly renovated hall. PLEASE do not attend any activity at Hochstein if you are not feeling 100% healthy.
