Event details

The Hochstein School’s free lunchtime “brown bag” Live from Hochstein concert series features Gossamer Edge: Allyn Van Dusen, mezzo-soprano; Rita George Simmons, flute; and Paula Rodney Bobb, piano, performing music set to poetry by famed Indian Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore. Part of Hochstein's Centennial Celebration!

The program also includes works by Franz Schubert, Gabriel Fauré, and Cary Ratcliff, among others.

Rita George Simmons and Paula Bobb are both members of Hochstein’s faculty, in flute and piano, respectively. Mezzo-soprano Allyn Van Dusen is a versatile performer who has appeared as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, RPO, and Rochester Oratorio Society, among others.

The voice-flute-piano trio Gossamer Edge was formed in 2012 to explore the vibrant repertory for this trio combination, as well as solo literature and duos combining the instruments in different ways. These sonic possibilities make for intriguing and varied programs in which the performers point to meaningful interconnections, soul journeys, and playful perspectives on life, expressed through the sheer beauty of the music and poetic texts.

The concert takes place in the Hochstein Performance Hall and is broadcast live on WXXI Classical 91.5/ 90.3 FM, hosted by Classical 91.5’s Mona Seghatoleslami.

Listen to an encore broadcast on WXXI Classical 91.5 FM at 9:00 pm the day of the concert.

Sidney and Barbara Sobel have provided continuous underwriting of the Live from Hochstein Broadcast & Concert Series since 1993.

Live from Hochstein is also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
