Event details

Heralding the holidays with brass music from the Eastman Horn Choir – W. Peter Kurau, director – featuring musicians from the Eastman School of Music. The program includes holiday favorites such as “Adeste Fideles” and “Jingle Bell Rock,” as well as selections from Handel’s Messiah, arranged for brass.

The Eastman Horn Choir was founded in 1968 by Verne Reynolds, Professor Emeritus of Horn at the Eastman School of Music, who served as its director until his retirement in 1995. The Choir is typically  featured on the “Eastman at Washington Square” series, on “Live from Hochstein” in its annual holiday concert, in its biennial tribute to St. Hubert (patron saint of the hunt, from which the horn derives much of its repertoire), in formal concert in Kilbourn Hall and the Eastman Theatre, and on the “Music at St. Andrew’s” and “Music at St. John’s” series.

The Hochstein School’s free lunchtime “brown bag” Live from Hochstein concert series takes place in the Hochstein Performance Hall and is broadcast live on WXXI Classical 91.5/ 90.3 FM, hosted by Classical 91.5’s Mona Seghatoleslami.

Sidney and Barbara Sobel have provided continuous underwriting of the Live from Hochstein Broadcast & Concert Series since 1993.

Live from Hochstein is also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
