Have you always wanted to learn how to improvise but never had the opportunity? The Well-Rounded Pianist is your key to discovering ways to utilize your existing piano “chops” in new and exciting ways of creating music.

This class will explore ideas used by classical composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin, as well as delving into jazz and popular music styles. Students will learn methods for approaching improvisation and engage in guided practice.

In addition to the weekly hour-long class, each student will have three, 30-minute lessons with Dr. Arahata throughout the course of the six-week session. The session will conclude with an informal virtual recital where students can share their improvisations.

Fee: $10 registration fee; $195* tuition. (Fees are as of Summer 2020.)
