JOHN OWEN JONES ~ Soloist
John Owen-Jones is a record-breaking West End and Broadway actor and singer. John is best known for his award-winning performances as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and as The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera. John remains the youngest actor in West End history to have played Jean Valjean in Les Miserables (a role he also played on Broadway) and has performed as the Phantom nearly 2,000 times – more than any actor in the show’s entire West End run. He is currently playing Jean Valjean in Les Miserables at The Imperial Theatre, New York.
TORONTO WELSH MALE VOICE CHOIR
The Grand Concert will feature the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir that proudly draws on the great Welsh tradition of singing hymns and songs born of the mountains and valleys of Wales. At the same time it emphasizes a multicultural context in its broad repertoire, which includes spirituals; operatic arias, Canadian folk songs, Broadway show tunes and contemporary music. Established in 1995 when its founding member and first president, Gwyn Roberts, gathered together a group of like-minded individuals of Welsh heritage, TWMVC sought to kindle the spirit of traditional Welsh male voice singing in their adopted country. Many of the current members still lay claim to Welsh connections, but today TWMVC has members from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
Shuttle buses will be provided for those with restricted mobility to get there and back from both the Hochstein on Saturday evening, and the Third Presbyterian Church (4 Meigs St, Rochester, NY 14607) for the Gymanfa Ganu on Sunday, which is located 1 mile from the Hyatt.
