CMC Prelude Program

For students in grades 1-5 who read music and play at NYSSMA Level 3+ or the equivalent. Open to strings only.

Audition Requirements: Applicants will be asked to submit a short video of their playing to ensure best possible group placement. (see below on how to apply)

Please note: Students will be asked to follow any COVID-19 safety guidelines that are in place by the time rehearsals begin.

This early-start program for young string students provides the perfect introduction to playing in a chamber ensemble. Students of compatible ages and abilities will be placed in string trios or quartets and will meet for weekly one-hour coaching sessions scheduled at a time mutually agreeable among ensemble members and the coach. Ensembles in the Prelude Program are provided many performance opportunities throughout the year with masterclasses and concerts at Hochstein and in the community.

FEE: $10 registration fee; $576* yearly tuition payable in quarterly installments of $144 each. For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, yearly tuition is $468 payable in quarterly installments of $117. (Fees are as of Fall 2022.)
