Ballet III

Continued training in the Russian (Vaganova) technique. It is recommended that students take both Ballet III and Ballet III/IV classes each week in order to experience a higher level of achievement. If one class per week is chosen, the instructor will make recommendations as to which class is the most appropriate for the student’s age and ability.
Ballet III/IV

Students entering Ballet II/III or Ballet III/IV are encouraged to take two classes each week to maximize their technical advancement. If one class per week is chosen, the instructor will make recommendations as to which class is the most appropriate for the student’s age and ability.
Prep for Pointe

Students who are technically capable and physically developed have the option of participating in Pointe class as part of their Vaganova training. The Preparation/Pointe/Variations class will focuses on developing the coordination, muscular strength, and placement for pointe work. Emphasis is placed on the proper foot, body alignment, and core strength needed to safely and successfully dance “en pointe.”
The class consists of beginning and intermediate pointe technique by incorporating exercises at barre and center. Center work includes intermediate combinations and repertoire from traditional and original ballets (variations). Once students have acquired strength and technical proficiency, they are allowed to take the class en pointe.
Note: Students must be attending both Ballet III and Ballet III/IV classes weekly to be invited to take this class. Students at ages 12+ may be considered based on technical ability.
Dance attire for these classes:
- Pink footed tights (usually recommended for females)
- OR black footed tights (usually recommended for males)
- Solid colored leotard (usually recommended for females)
- OR solid light or white t-shirt (usually recommended for males)
- Ballet slippers
- NO street shoes on the marley floor
- Hair pulled back (long hair in a bun)
- No excessive jewelry
- No footless tights or leotards with skirts
- Pointe: convertable tights, sheer ballet skirts permitted, pointe shoes (when recommended by the instructor)
- Adults: dance skirt permitted
Fee: $20 registration fee; $180* per quarter (9-week session). For students enrolled in individual lessons at Hochstein, the reduced tuition is $135 per quarter.
Full year tuition is $720* payable in quarterly installments of $180 per 9-week session or the reduced fee of $540 payable in quarterly installments of $135. (Fees are as of Fall 2024.)
