Hochstein student Joshua Lin – a seventh grader at Victor Junior High School and member of the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra – has been invited to participate in a violin masterclass with world-renowned Russian violin virtuoso Maxim Vengerov at Nazareth University on Wednesday, November 20.
Universally hailed as one of the world’s finest musicians, the Grammy Award-winning musician also enjoys international acclaim as a conductor and has held teaching positions in the world’s leading music conservatories throughout his career.
Joshua is a student of Marcos Kreutzer and has been studying violin since he was 5. Marcos says, “This is a big deal and a once-in-a-lifetime thing for this student.” Two Nazareth students and a high school student will also be part of the masterclass.
This past May, Joshua won second place in his age group in the Manolov International Music Competition in Garden City, NY. (Read more about that on the HochStories blog.)
Joshua has won Hochstein Merit Scholarships several times and recently was named as one of the HYSO Concerto Competition winners. He will play a solo with the orchestra in February 2025, performing the first movement of Lalo’s Symphonie Español. Joshua plays on a violin that he was granted to use by the ChiMei Museum and Foundation in Taiwan.
In addition to conducting the violin masterclass with local students, Maxim Vengerov performs with the Nazareth Symphony Orchestra on Thursday evening while he’s in Rochester. Find out more here.
