John Rolland holds a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in wind conducting from SUNY Fredonia. He directs the Penfield High School Wind Ensemble and serves as chair of the Penfield music department. Rolland previously taught at Northport High School on Long Island where he directed the concert band, jazz ensemble, and chamber winds and was assistant director of the Northport Tiger Marching Band.
Rolland is director of the Junior Wind Symphony and Youth Wind Symphony at The Hochstein School and is a frequent guest conductor of junior and senior high honor bands throughout New York State. He has served as Interim Director of the Cassadaga Area Concert Band and Music Director of the East End Chamber Orchestra (Long Island, NY.)
As a percussionist, Rolland has performed with the Atlantic Wind Symphony and Western New York Chamber Orchestra and remains active as a rock, jazz, and pit orchestra drummer. He is head percussion instructor for the Gates Chili High School Marching Band, percussion section coach for the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra, and former front ensemble instructor for the White Sabers Drum and Bugle Corps.
