ROCHESTER, NY—JANUARY 12, 2015—Hochstein School of Music & Dance continues its commitment providing the Rochester community with a variety of dance styles and artistry through the residency of FuturePointe Dance, a genre-bending Rochester, New York-based dance theater company, created in 2009 by founding artistic producers/choreographers, N'Jelle Gage and Guy Thorne.
The residency will include short courses open to the public, collaborations with Hochstein’s dance department including performances and workshops, company rehearsals and selected open observation rehearsals for the community.
According to Hochstein Dance Department Co-Chair, Sarah Andreacchi, “We admire the work and philosophy of FuturPointe Dance. They have an open view of what dance and dance-making can be and their fusion of contemporary/urban styles is a great addition to our school. We are working on building our department’s offerings in the modern, contemporary realm and this is a very exciting match.”
"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to plug in our technical and production skills and to new collaborations, artistic friendships, and engaging new audiences in ways that mobilize and energize the Hochstein vision,” said Guy Thorne, Artistic Director, FuturPointe.
"As artists who see dance as an opportunity to provide avenues for psychological wellness & social change, we are excited about creating new multi-generational classes that complement Hochstein's offerings. We will also be hosting sessions that encourage new ways for the community to engage in dance alongside dance artists." N' Jelle Gage-Thorne, Founder and Executive Director of FuturPointe adds.
The first opportunity for the public to join FuturPointe at Hochstein is during the school’s mid-winter open house, Musical Mystery Tour, on Sunday, January 18th from 2-4pm. FuturPointe will present a sample of its urban, Caribbean influenced dance styles through an informal, fun and interactive presentation that will include FuturPointe professional dance artists and students, alongside Hochstein student Ensemble members and adventurous parents and kids from the audience.
