Dave Chisholm is a trumpet player, songwriter, composer, bandleader, educator, and visual artist currently residing in Rochester, NY, where he finished his DMA in Jazz Studies from the Eastman School of Music. The breadth of Chisholm's artistic output is a testament to his talent and passion.
From the big-band jazz of his debut album "Radioactive" to the post-rock-meets-jazz-improvisation soundscapes on "Calligraphy"; from his soulful indie-rock singer-songwriter project "Talking Under Water" to the blistering straight-ahead jazz performed by Utah group John Henry; from his outstanding graphic novel "Let's go to UTAH!" to his boundary-breaking music-meets-comics opus "Instrumental," Chisholm's artistic ambition knows no bounds. Chisholm also co-founded upstart jazz big bands SLAJO (Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra) and Colossus (Rochester, NY).
In addition to frequent performances in the Rochester area, Chisholm has also performed as a featured soloist on a concert tour in Estonia ('04), at the World Expo in Shanghai, China ('10), at the Umbria Jazz Festival ('12), and at the Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York City ('12).
Chisholm is currently the Director of the Creativity Lab at Hochstein, focusing on technology-based music education. He directs Rock Ensembles at Hochstein and also teaches rock/pop songwriting, improvisation, and composition.
