Congratulations to cellist Annie Jacob-Perkins, a Hochstein alum who made her debut at London’s Wigmore Hall last month! Annie gave the recital as a result of winning the 2023 Pierre Fournier Award for talented young cellists. Her Hochstein cello teacher, Kathy Kemp, was watching in the audience.
Annie was joined by pianist Dina Ivanova to perform music by Rachmaninov, Carter, and Boulanger. Kathy says, "Annie and Dina played magnificently - had four curtain calls, which according to her USC teacher Ralph Kirshbaum was unprecedented!! We all had tears of joy and overflowing pride in her accomplishments!"
Annie has lots of exciting things in the works. She is in the process of recording her debut album on the Champs Hill label, and will perform as soloist with the London Philharmonia in the coming seasons. She will be back in Rochester next March and will give several performances, including an appearance on the Live from Hochstein noontime concert series. She is also scheduled to travel to Australia next fall to perform at the Sydney Opera House.
Annie studied cello at Hochstein with Kathy Kemp and received the Hochstein Honors Certificate. In 2020, she returned as a featured soloist with the Hochstein Alumni Orchestra, performing Haydn’s technically challenging Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major.
Annie holds Master’s degrees from the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin and the New England Conservatory and received her Bachelor of Music from USC’s Thornton School of Music. She is a member of Berlin-based Trio Brontë, the first prize winner of the 2023 Ilmari Hannikainen Piano Chamber Music Competition in Finland, and a Britten Pears Young Artist for the 2024-25 season.
