Hochstein students earn Merit Scholarships, Honors Certificates, and perform at Honors Convocation

Fifteen Hochstein students in grades 5 to 12 will be recognized at Hochstein’s Honors Convocation on Friday, May 31 at 7:00 pm, representing two of The Hochstein School’s programs for the most advanced students: the winners of Merit Scholarships and candidates for completion of the Honors Certificate Program. Students also will perform solos during the Honors Convocation. In addition, two students were awarded Honorable Mention. See below for the full list of honorees.

This concert will also be live streamed on Hochstein’s YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/hochsteinschool.

Hochstein teachers nominate students to audition for Merit Scholarships each year. The 2023-24 auditions were held February–March 2024 and were organized in four categories for various grade levels of music students. This year’s scholarships are provided through endowed funds established to memorialize former board members Sydney Rubin and his wife Pearl Rubin, Lillian Taylor Hubbard, and Walter Holloran, as well as Dorothy Pund Allen, David Romig, Sidney & Ruth Salzman, Diana & Christina Wang, and members of the Knights of Pythias.

The Honors Certificate Program is entered by audition and is an intensive course of music study over several years. Many of the graduates of Hochstein’s Honors Certificate Program have pursued further musical studies at the finest conservatories and university schools of music in the country. There are four seniors who are expected to complete the program this year. The Honors Certificate Program is made possible with generous support from the Donald F. & Maxine B. Davison Foundation.
